The concept of hermitage…

…dates back to ancient times when people chose to live apart from their everyday lives. They did this not only for prayer and meditation, but also to experience an alternative perspective to that of the dominant culture. Solitary retreat is not an escape from reality; it is an event that can bring clarity and understanding for our inner self, awakening our senses to a deeper reality.

The experience of Hermitage — personal retreat — is gaining popularity as people recognize the need to take time for physical, mental and spiritual renewal. In our hectic world, people seek a place free of distractions; a place were they can slow down the pace of life, find solitude, and restore balance; a place to pray, think, and wander.

"A holy, comfortable place. Thank you for creating the place and space to just be. I am renewed and refreshed."

God has given Amnicon the beauty of a natural place for renewal and reflection in our world. Amnicon has been blessed with hundreds of acres of forests nestled between the Amnicon River and beautiful Lake Superior.

The warm rich smell of bread baking and the singing of woodland birds welcome you to the hermitage ministry. The secluded hermitage cabin rests in the midst of the quiet beauty of Amnicon’s natural setting on the south shore of Lake Superior. A short trail through the woods connects you to the main site. The cabin itself is comfortable and attractive. Reading and resource materials are provided for your convenience. A cozy propane stove and electric light provide modern comforts. A plush, heated, outdoor toilet is just a few steps outside of the cabin. Hearty, nutritious meals prepared by the staff may be eaten privately in the cabin or with others in the dining hall.
